Vehicle and alternative fuel technology
The use of clean, quiet and efficient vehicle technology will boost liveability and the clever use of transport networks. Silent lorries enable companies to transport and distribute goods during the evening and at night. Fewer delays caused by traffic jams is a positive outcome for the transport company. Less congestion will deliver higher fuel efficiency and less CO2 pollution.
The department is highly experienced in stimulating innovative vehicle technology, the use of alternative fuels, quiet tyres and lightweight constructions. This is done in close cooperation with knowledge institutes, public organisations and businesses. The department is advising the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment about a strategy for alternative fuels up to 2050. This strategy includes how the introduction of these fuels to the market could be implemented and its related fuel infrastructure.
