China soil projects Phase 1
Project Objective
This project is directly connected to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Environment (with annexes on Soil and Waste Management), signed in November 2008 by Dutch minister of Infrastructure and the Environment, Dr J. Cramer and her Chinese counterpart Mr Zhou Shengxian from the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP). Besides MEP, the leading research academies CRAES (the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Beijing) and NIES (the Nanjing Institute for Environmental Sciences, Nanjing) are parties in the cooperation.
Phase 1
Three activities were conducted; Soil+ played an active or leading role in the projects:
- Scientific cooperation on soil-screening values between NIES and RIVM to create a firm basis for (environmental) risk assessment instruments for China;
- Training of 300 representatives from central (MEP) and local (EPBs) authorities and Environmental Science Research Institutes (NIES, CRAES);
- In 2010 a joint Chinese/Canadian/Dutch team conducted a CCICED special policy study on 'Developing policies for soil environmental protection in China'.
Note: Soil Environmental Management was adopted in the 12th five year plan, which runs from 2011 until 2015.
Project duration
The projects duration: 2009 - 2011.
